Oven Bacon

Did you know you can make bacon in the oven!?! Well you can and its awesome. No more standing in front of a grease spitting pan flipping bacon for 30 minutes to fry a whole pack. You can make a whole pack in the oven and do something else (reading a book would be my choice) while its cooking! This is a great way to make breakfast ahead of time for rushed mornings!

Here's how easy it is:
Line a baking sheet with foil and evenly space a whole pack of (nitrate-free) bacon on the baking sheet. It is ok if it overlaps a little bit. Put the sheet in the oven and turn it on to 400F. Do not preheat the oven; this allows the bacon to heat slowly and thoroughly. Cooking time will vary based on personal preference.
Here is a tentative guide on how long to bake it:
18-20 min - soft tender bacon (my favorite) this works best if you plan on reheating it in the microwave the next day
22-25 min - perfectly crispy bacon
26-28 min - well done bacon, the way most of my family enjoys their bacon
Remove from the oven and immediately take off of the baking sheet using tongs to stop the cooking process. Transfer the bacon to plate lined with paper towels to soak of the grease. Let your grease cool and save for frying eggs or I used mine to fry our chicken strips.

Nutrition Notes: Bacon is high in sodium, but is a great source of protein. Bacon has a lot of critics! Make sure to choose nitrate free. Nitrates are a known carcinogen. Also make sure not to buy and brown sugar types. Any added sugar will encourage weight gain.
